My PS2’s disc read error issue has gotten worse; I now cannot play ANY DISC that I put into the console, for gaming or otherwise. That sucks like nothing else, even though I have a DVD player that’s separate so I can still watch movies.
I now need to crack the sucker open and mess with the innards. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion the position of the laser has something to do with it…
I just need to get me one of those itty-bitty eyeglass/jeweler screwdrivers. Sigh.

Oh, I know what you mean. Typically, I’d feel the same way, but as it currently stands, my PS2 is decidedly useless; I can’t do anything with it, aside from look at what’s stored on my memory cards, which I can’t actually use with my games. :p
I’ve got little to lose by trying my hand at fixing things internally, so I’m going to give it a shot. If I break it even more, I’ll either send it to Sony to be repaired properly or try to replace it.

Thanks! I’ll definitely be needing it, methinks.

[...] fixed. Starter was replaced, and everything is running fine now. I fixed my PS2’s DRE problem (and didn’t even require a tiny screwdriver), so I can actually PLAY my PSX/PS2 games again. [...]
