…Or lack thereof.
Most people who know me at all know I’m not a fan of dA. I signed up for it originally back in the spring of 2001, and used it a bit, then realized it was less about actually bringing artists together than it was about seeing which anime derivative fanart snob could get more pageviews and +favs. I mostly just use it for networking and exposure.
So, I check my account today and find that I have a note which says the following:
An administrator has relocated one of your deviations from Artisan Crafts > Textiles > Fiber Art to Artisan Crafts > Textiles > Fiber Art.
Lol, what? Well… thanks for moving it to the same category. That’s cool. Much appreciated.
Oh, they’re also teamed up with Square-Enix for some contest thing to draw for some new DS game (which has already been released) and people are whining because the prizes (critique from Square-Enix and winning a copy of the game) aren’t motivating enough. Rofl.

I find that deviantART is really overrated. It’s all a competition to get comments, praise, and the like. Well, that or make yourself look
like a good critic. ;p

I’ve got friends at DA, so I try to login occasionally, but I’ve been pretty turned off from submitting my work there. Since I joined, probably around the same time as you, I’ve gotten more “oooh! so purty!” or “your work is crap” comments rather than constructive criticism. That’s why I joined, to upload my sketches and color pencil drawings, most of which were fantasy or fanart, and get critique on how to improve. When that didn’t happen, I kind of stopped. I don’t even upload my photography there.

I dislike all the crap on deviantart, but there are some real gems there.

A freakin’ critique from Square-Enix isn’t enough??? (Never mind a COPY of the GAME) These damn self-centered little DA brats! =P
I used to follow an artist named Brianna Garcia, though… her art kicked major ass.

Aha, I don’t quite care for dA very much. I signed up on it in 2004 because my friends did, but I mostly just check for images that I might need and stuff.

Actually I feel the same way now. A lot of artists are also complaining about the lost of “community” in the community
