I first learned some basics to crocheting from my paternal grandmother during one of my visits up in Washington state. Essentially, I learned how to start with a slipknot and how to chain, but that’s about it.
Last autumn, I started to pick it up again and bought myself some basic supplies and a book for beginners. For some reason I couldn’t figure out, my stitches weren’t coming out the way they were supposed to, according to that book. Distracted and somewhat perturbed, I set my yarn aside for a few months.
Now, browsing Etsy has uh… re-inspired me, so to speak and I looked up a video on youtube to see exactly what I was doing wrong that a book couldn’t explain. I figured it out, and now I’m crocheting all over the place. I’m also a little burnt out on drawing for the next week or two, so this is a good and productive diversion in my activities.
I am now determined to make something other than practice swatches. Above is my progress on a dishtowel pattern from my book. So far, so good.
